Hands-On Parenting is about giving parents advice that works for your kids from birth to age five. We seek out experts who not only know their "stuff", but who have also been in your shoes.

At HOP, we think parenting should be simple and fun. We hope you'll enjoy exploring this Hands-On Parenting web site and that you'll learn some practical solutions to parenting problems in the process.

Raising an Emotionally Healthy Child

Running Time: 7 min 17 sec.

Host Barb Hazelton visits with author Sharlene Habermeyer (See 'Experts' area of Hands-on Parenting web site.) about ways to raise an emotionally healthy child.

Ms. Habermeyer has raised 5 children of her own and has "walked her talk". Specific suggestions are offered, some as simple as taking time daily to talk and listen to your child and express your love to him/her. Ms. Habermeyer suggests evening rituals that can be fun such as "Rock-Me-Time", "Moments of Mush" and "My Best Day".

Establishing and maintaining a personal relationship with your child is key to raising an emotionally healthy child, according to Ms. Habermeyer, and she has specific suggestions on ways to get started with this process.
